I successfully set a high res image as my background across all 3 monitors, but then when I was changing to a different picture I only got a black screen. I have been able to change the color from black via the windows personalize, but I can't get a single image to become the whole background again. I can still set an individual image for each monitor, but not one for all.

If you're running Actual Window Manager could you download this file , install it and see whether the problem goes away?
If you're running Actual Multiple Monitors use this file instead –
