Could you download and see whether the explorer.exe process has aimemb.dll or aimemb64.dll loaded in it when Actual Window Manager is launched (see the attached screenshot)?

Could you install again on the computer, where you have this problem, and see whether the problem persists with this version.

Reinstalling 8.10.2 resolved the issue. I have notification area again, TAB's are back in explorer, and desktop icons save/restore again.

RC1 = everything working
RC2 = TAB, icon save, and notification area disappear
I installed RC1, RC2, 8.11, 8.10.2 in various combinations going back and forth. Consistently, everything RC1 and prior worked, while everything RC2 and above failed.

Morning,
Just got back from vacation. I tried the new version and both the notification area and saved desktop icons work. As noted, tab'd explorer did not function correctly.
I also tried 8.11.1 and it was broke for all items.
