I can't use the AWM taskbar on the primary monitor instead of the Windows taskbar. The AWM taskbar conflicts with other programs I'm running that affect the taskbar. Also,I'm not willing to switch themes just to get the previews to work, so I guess I'll just forget about them.
Do you want me to send my configuration files anyway?

I just sent the files.
Also, I found out that it's not the Preview function that's causing the small close button. I re-enabled the taskbar on the secondary monitor, and even with the Preview function disabled, I started seeing the small close button again, so it's related to the secondary taskbar.

The AWM-generated taskbar on the primary monitor interferes with a few other apps that I run, and I'm not willing to give up these apps or my current theme, so I'll just do without the previews.
However, I re-enabled the taskbar on the second monitor (set to Individual), and now I'm seeing the small close button again several times a day even with the previews disabled. So, apparently, it's related to having Multi-monitor Taskbar enabled rather than being related to the preview function.

Ok, we'll try to reproduce the issue taking this new information into account.

What exactly apps conflicting with AWM are you running? Maybe, incompatibility is the reason why does the red button appear?
When you had the preview thumbnails enabled did it work on the secondary taskbar? And please check whether it works now when enabled?

Apps that AWM conflicts with:
Say the Time PS Tray Factory NetWorx Taskbar Activate
By conflict, I mean that these apps won't work or won't work properly with the AWM-generated taskbar. They don't seem to cause any problems for AWM, but they only work with the Windows taskbar.
The previews didn't work on the secondary taskbar, but you said that they only work with the Aero theme, and I don't (and won't) use that theme.

Hello Mike, could you remind me, what OS are you running?
What is your monitors arrangement?
How is the AWM taskbar (which is on secondary monitor) adjusted? Is it on top of the monitor too?
Best regards.

XP Pro SP3
Monitor 2 is the primary. Monitor 1 is to the left of monitor 2. The desktop is extended from monitor 2 onto monitor 1.
The AWM taskbar on the secondary monitor is at the top of the screen and is set to autohide.
I just noticed that the Identify function isn't working correctly in AWM. When I click the Identify button, the number 1 shows up on monitor 1, but nothing shows on monitor 2. When I use the Windows Display Properties identify function, it works correctly.
