Hi there,

I noticed that on my Windows 7 64bit machine, that moving windows from Monitor to Monitor in my dual monitor setup (especially 'Computer' or a folder under a drive) was somewhat slower than I was used to, with significant slow down.

I used Task Manager and Resource Monitor (amongst others) to ascertain thgat when moving an Explorer-based Window, Explorer.exe's CPU usage hit 25-27% for the duration of the time I was moving the Window.  I tried to find out what was causing this and then I quit Actual Window Manager.  I re-tested and the Explorer.exe only hit 4%.

It seems that AWM 7.4.1 is causing Explorer.exe to have extremely high CPU usage in Windows 7 64bit (whether it's only that version or not, I am unsure).

Can you please confirm and provide some assistance as I wish to continue using this product.

Many thanks.

Hello Craig

Please try the newly released 7.4.2 version. Check whether this problem still persists and let us know.

Best regards.

Quick question before I do....do you not know what you have fixed in the 7.4.2 version that might effect this?

I.e. what is the Changelog?

No, that is no better at all.

This is the best CPU reading I could get when moving the Explorer window.

I don't wish to move away from AWM as it has some features that are unique, however I need this to stop eating my resource otherwise it's pointless.

Hello Craig

Do you move the windows between the monitors manually?

Could you create the new user on the same PC, install AWM and check whether the problem persists.

Best regards.

Hello Bogdan,

This is a new user as this is a new machine - fresh install.

The high CPU occurs when the window is on one monitor or when moving between the two.

Maybe it is a fresh install, but i can see some other software installed.

I ask you to create a new user to eliminate a possibility of the other software influence.

Bogdan

As you can see (TestUser) a new profile does not help the situation at all.

Hello Craig

Does the dragging of the non-explorer windows cause such effect?

Try to disable the AWM taskbar, check whether it solves the problem.

Best regards.

Hi Bogdan

Right, disabling the taskbar has no effect - I still see Explorer.exe CPU sitting at 25% when dragging an Explorer window around one, or both screens.

However, non-explorer windows (such as game windows or Google Chrome obviously do not cause this issue with Explorer.exe.  Dragging a Google Chrome window exhibits the same 25% CPU hit, but against the chrome.exe process as opposed to the Explorer.exe process.

At least we know it's AWM specific and not Explorer.exe specific.

any other ideas - I'm going to have to move away completely if we cannot get this fixed as it's just too much of an issue.
